Shared ownership — anyone actually managed to staircase to 100%?

Been in our shared ownership flat for 3 years now (own 40%). The housing association is a nightmare to deal with and the service charges keep going up.

Has anyone actually managed to staircase all the way to 100%? How long did it take and was it worth the hassle? Our monthly costs feel almost as high as if we'd just bought outright.
