Area Archetype Quiz

6 quick questions. We map your answers onto Census 2021 area archetypes and show you sample UK neighbourhoods that fit. A starting point for area research, not a recommendation.

What are area archetypes?

UK neighbourhoods cluster into recognisable patterns: student belts near universities, family suburbs around good primary schools, retirement coasts, diverse inner-city quarters, young-professional rental hubs, mature established towns. Most areas fall cleanly into one of seven types based on tenure mix, age profile, household composition, and diversity — all from Census 2021.

The quiz scores your answers against each archetype, picks your closest match, and then surfaces three example neighbourhoods of that type from across England and Wales as a jumping-off point for your own research.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a property recommendation?
No — it's a research starting point. Archetypes tell you what kind of area you'd likely fit in. Use the Neighbourhood Twin Finder or area-specific tools (crime, schools, sold prices) to evaluate specific postcodes.
What if I'm between two archetypes?
Many people are. Retake the quiz with different answers to see which alternative scores second-highest — both archetypes are probably worth exploring.
Which countries are covered?
England and Wales — Census 2021 MSOA-level data is not published for Scotland or Northern Ireland.
